Thoughts on HP Pavilion dv6736nr

HP Pavilion dv6736nrI bought another laptop on Thursday, the HP Pavilion dv6736nr. So far I am not too impressed but that may be because I am still getting used to Vista. Don’t get me wrong, Vista looks beautiful and I love the feature packed Media Center, however, Microsoft has completely overhauled the UI which makes it more difficult to navigate. Also, I am already tired of being asked repeatedly if I am sure I want to run a program. Back up off of me, Vista.

The laptop is gorgeous with cool abstract shapes covering the case, almost identical to my previous laptop: HP Pavilion dv2000. I do prefer the smaller 14.1 inch screen over a 15.4 inch screen though. I think as time goes by and the more I bond with my new lappy, I’ll begin to like it more but until then I’ll just have to leave you with some cold, hard facts.

  1. I bought this same laptop on post thanksgiving sale. However, my father liked it so much that I sold it to him. Now I’m looking for a replacement, but I think it is a very cool Laptop.

  2. I could not agree more. Although, I thought I was purchasing a DV6736NR only to find the old bate and switch game played out. Then I found my out of the Box SPECIAL DEAL from good old BEST BUY was a Unit that was sold and returned with all it’s fixins, original owners address, email and private stock XXX movies, thrown in… for free! The Vista Upgrade is just that an upgraded nicer looking Windows XP with more crap and less substance then a low end Mac, I for one have decided it’s time to cross over and go Mac, hope it’s worth it!

Best Buy Sucks and so does just about every other company these days, but what ya gonna do!

  3. I’ve got Vista on my new HP Desktop. I totally dig it… the price was awesome, and it came with a 24 inch flat widescreen. The only thing that I don’t like with Vista is it asking me “ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO RUN THIS PROGRAM?” over and over and over again. I figured out how to turn it off though! Finally! Now It’s not so bad.

  4. You really want to get that lappy of yours flying turn off the areo and glass on vista. Your going to want to turn off the sidebar too cause without the galss its not transparent. You will not be able to run dreamscene either for the ultimate users out there but you get one hell of an operating system and fast as hell. After i turned it off my base score in vista went from 3.0 to 3.5 but its still low cause of the graphics. I want to upgrade the RAM though but i cant find anything that tells me if the hardware can support it or not.

  5. @ Airin: The memory in the laptop can be upgraded to 4 gigs, as that is what I am using. One note, you might want to keep areo and glass on (and disable windows search and the sidebar) as the system seems to be a little more responsive. This has been my experience when I ran the laptop on 2 gigs of memory.

Also, everyone may want to try using the ReadyBoost feature as it goes a long way in giving your system a little snap.

  6. I had my hp 6736nr for a year and one month and my Multiformat DVD±RW/CD-RW drive with double-layer support; also supports LightScribe direct-disc labels just stop working. HP has the worst customer service ever…So just watch out for the defect.
